Modifications to the surface of a material can be used to change the mechanical, chemical and functional properties of a material without needing to re-synthesize said material. This can increase its lifespan, expand its use & introduce beneficial characteristics such as water & heat resistance, corrosion-resistance, or even anti-microbial resistance. Such modifications can also bring about extreme properties.
This collection aims to provide a platform for authors to submit research relating to techniques, technologies, and practices – both theoretical & practical – that are involved with the modification of the surface of materials. Potential topics include but are not limited to:
- Mechanical techniques
- Chemical techniques
- Physical techniques
- Biochemical techniques
Open Research Europe requires open access to research data supporting articles under the principle ‘as open as possible, as closed as necessary’. All articles should include citations to repositories that host the data underlying the results, together with any information needed to replicate, validate, and/or reuse the results/your study and analysis of the data. We recognize there may be exceptions due to ethical, data protection, or confidentiality considerations, or because the data have been obtained from a third party and access restrictions apply.
