About this Collection
This collection is aimed at scientists with interests in advancing the development and application of geophysical techniques and soil analytical methodologies to archaeological prospection, site to landscape characterisation, and monitoring.

It is a collection of open access articles created by COST Action SAGA (CA17131) ‘Soil science & Archaeo-Geophysics Alliance: going beyond prospection’.

The collection particularly encourages the submission of articles exploring the results of studies combining geophysics and soil science with the goal of maximising the interpretation of data for archaeological purposes.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
  • Geophysical methods and soil analyses assessing contrast dynamics behind the detection of buried archaeological features.
  • Geophysical methods and soil analyses to identify buried archaeological sites and assess past activity areas and paleoenvironments.
  • Integrated approaches for site monitoring, evaluating site preservation, and assessing and managing risk from natural disasters/climate change.
  • Experiences in challenging survey environments.
  • Country-based overviews.
  • Multivariate and interdisciplinary data integration, analysis, and modelling.

The collection publishes all article types offered by Open Research Europe, including essays, original research articles, case studies, and facilitates the dissemination of all research outputs as openly and quickly as possible. All articles are subject to rigorous and open peer review by invited experts.
