About Coronavirus

Since late 2019, millions of deaths worldwide have been caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (i.e., the coronavirus that causes COVID–19). Health/medical professionals and researchers have rapidly generated knowledge regarding the diagnosis, management, and treatment of COVID–19 on a mass-scale with an aim to contain the virus and prevent further impactions to individuals and the population at large. However, cases remain high and are rising in certain areas, and many more questions regarding the long-term effects of COVID–19 are being asked.

This collection aims to provide Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe beneficiaries with a space to openly publish work within the broad area of COVID–19 to further accelerate one of the most rapidly growing research areas in infectious diseases.

The scope of the collection includes but is not limited to:

• Genetic properties of COVID–19 variants
• Health implications of COVID–19 in different populations
• Current and prospective patient-centred treatment and preventative strategies
• Current and prospective public health interventions
• Long-term vaccination efficacy
• Clinical trial data collected during and after the pandemic

All article processing charges will be covered centrally by the European Commission.

Open Research Europe requires open access to research data supporting articles under the principle ‘as open as possible, as closed as necessary’. All articles should include citations to repositories that host the data underlying the results, together with any information needed to replicate, validate, and/or reuse the results/your study and analysis of the data. We recognise there may be exceptions due to ethical, data protection, or confidentiality considerations, or because the data have been obtained from a third party and access restrictions apply.
