The algae sector will contribute to the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and will offer opportunities to foster sustainable economy based upon renewable resources, yet knowledge gaps still remain.
This collection aims to gather research on algae and microalgae ecology, adaptations and threats from environmental stressors, current developments and valorisation of Algae in a wide variety of markets. Different article types can be included focusing on the following potential topics (but not limited to):
- Algae and microalgae ecology and diversity.
- Drivers of algae and microalgae under changing world and climate.
- Knowledge advances about algae and microalgae biomass production and applications.
- Valorisation of algae and microalgae products and metabolites.
- Potential of algae and microalgae utilization in circular waste-streams.
- Microbial interactions, symbiosis and functional interdependence between algae and other organisms in the phycosphere.
- Contaminants and parasites harmful for algae and microalgae growth and production.
